MUM SAVED & FAMILY’S PLEA:

- By Anil Dawar

A MOTHER was saved by her mobile phone when it deflected shrapnel from the bomb flying towards her head.

Lisa Bridgett, 45, was making a call after the Ariana Grande concert when the device packed with screws, nuts and bolts exploded.

A nut was sent flying towards her head, chopping off her middle finger as she held the phone.

It deflected off her mobile, through her cheek and into her nose.

Her husband Steve, 45, says his wife is “very lucky to be alive”.

Mrs Bridgett, a boatyard manager from Pwllheli, North Wales, who is recovering in hospital in Manchester was at the concert with her daughter and her daughter’s friend.

She had surgery on Tuesday and was due to have another operation after suffering multiple injuries, including a fractured ankle and a large wound to her thigh.

Her husband said in an online post: “The fact that she was on the phone at the time probably saved her life.

“The nut has hit her phone which has more than likely not only diverted it, but also slowed it down considerably. She will make a full recovery although I don’t think the finger will grow back.”

Mr Bridgett praised the police and medical staff for all their “incredible work” and paid particular thanks to a steward at the venue called Peter who helped lead Mrs Bridgett to safety.

He said: “Her nose is fine as the nut entered through her cheek, so just a scar to deal with. She’ll have a pot on for a few weeks and pins in her ankle so a bloody pain at airport security”

Mr Bridgett also said he has arranged to meet with the steward to thank him for helping his wife.

He added: “I have spoken to Peter since and we are going to meet up. Onwards and upwards. She’ll soon be propping the bar up again.”
