Farke’s in to lead Canaries

-

MARCO Silva has left his role as Hull manager, with Watford and Crystal Palace chasing his signature.

The Portuguese, right, activated the get-out clause in his contract after meeting Hull’s owners on Wednesday but wants to stay in English football. Palace need to replace Sam Allardyce, who resigned on Tuesday, while Watford want Silva to succeed the sacked Walter Mazzarri. DANIEL FARKE has been appointed Norwich’s new head coach.

Farke, previously Borussia Dortmund’s reserve-team coach, succeeds Alex Neil, who was sacked in March. German Farke, 40, is joined by countryman Edmund Riemer, as assistant head coach.

Both men have signed two-year deals. Farke said: “I am very excited to be here, it’s a great adventure for me.

“I had a really good time with Borussia Dortmund, but Stuart Webber, the sporting director, has told me all about Norwich City, its traditions and history and I know what a great club it is.

“I’m very glad to be here and can’t wait to get started.”

Farke is the Canaries’ first foreign boss and replaces Neil exactly two years after he guided them to the top flight, beating Middlesbrough in the play-off final. Norwich also considered Lincoln’s Danny Cowley and Barnsley’s Paul Heckingbottom but talks with Farke had been ongoing for weeks. WEST HAM have announced the departures of three players. Alvaro Arbeloa, left, and loanees Jonathan Calleri and Gokhan Tore have left the side who finished 11th last season having struggled for consistency following their move to the Olympic Stadium. Manager Slaven Bilic said: “We know what positions we want to improve the team in. We have a list of the players. It looks very positive so far.”

FRANCESCO TOTTI has said Sunday’s Serie A match against Genoa will be his last as a Roma player. The striker, 40, made his debut for the Giallorossi in 1993.
