We have a duty to make sure Labour doesn’t win

-

IF Jeremy Corbyn becomes prime minister later this week it will represent a grave risk to the security of this country. This is a man who has shown time and again throughout his lengthy career in politics that he cannot be relied upon to put the interests and the safety of the British people first.

He has repeatedly sided with our enemies. He called terror groups Hamas and Hezbollah his “friends”, chose to honour IRA terrorists and called the death of Osama Bin Laden a “tragedy”.

When Jihadi John was killed by a drone strike he did not express relief or commend the military officers’ expertise – he chose to question the legality of the action.

This is all part of a wider pattern. His response to everything – from the beheading in Syria of British aid worker Alan Henning by Islamic State to the recent attack on a pop concert in Manchester – is to brush aside the appalling evil of the terrorists and instead try to pin the blame on the actions of Britain’s leaders.

This approach has had a chilling effect on how he approaches counter-terror efforts. In the House of Commons he voted countless times against antiterror legislation. He has also expressed severe reservations about the police’s shoot-to-kill policy, a tactic that saved many lives in London on Saturday night. His recent attempts to distance himself from these views will not win over the majority of British voters who are far too intelligent to fall for his spin.

Under prime minister Corbyn, a man who once called for the British Army to be disbanded, our nuclear deterrent would be rendered completely useless by his ill-thought-out promise never to press the button.

We would also have Diane Abbott, who once advocated closing down both MI5 and Special Branch, as home secretary. Remember, a vote for Labour is a vote to put her in charge of our domestic security apparatus.

On Thursday the choice for everybody who values safety and security is obvious. We have a duty to back the Conservatives and keep Corbyn and Abbott out of government.
