IT’S the sound of the future, a cutting-edge device that looks like the coolest of audio systems. And it most certainly is – while still offering a solution to hearing loss. The Sonorlite XL 2020 Phonic Band doesn’t try to hide itself away like a conventional hearing aid, it flaunts its sophistication with the air of a piece of business equipment mixed with a music player. And it’s both of those too...

The device centres on its impressive hearing assessment feature via a Bluetooth link to phone or tablet computer. It detects sounds that you may be missing and then programs itself, boosting sounds in order that you can hear them.

Sound quality is the very best – there’s no whistling – and it can be re-tuned any number of times if your hearing profile changes.

There are four settings (allaround, indoor, outdoor and traffic) that can be quickly changed via the app on your mobile phone, which also allows fine-tuning while you are wearing the device.

The Phonic Band provides excellent results for those with mild to moderate hearing loss but has also been proved to help those with a more severe condition. The Sonorlite XL 2020 Phonic Band goes on to provide a total hearing and lifestyle communication system. It sits comfortably around the neck like a discreet set of headphones but connects to you via soft earbuds provided in a range of sizes. The Bluetooth link means you can then make and answer calls on your mobile phone. With a click on the neckband you can switch to listening to music from your phone or tablet.

The amplifier also enables you to better hear television and radio. An optional transmitter further amplifies the sound from television, radio, conversation or other sources and transmits it directly to the headset.

Put your home telephone in hands-free/speaker mode and you can make and receive calls via the unit. If your phone doesn’t have this mode, a suitable, low-cost handset can be supplied.

When it’s on voice messages tell you to recharge – a short charging time through the USB connection (via mains plug or another device) gives 10-plus hours of service.

The device was developed for younger people with hearing difficulties and who feel more at ease wearing a set of headphones than a tiny hearing aid. And yet the design and functionality has caught on across other age groups.

XL 2020 Phonic Band is also a boon for those who suffer not only hearing loss also but also impaired mobility – the simple operation and the fact that it isn’t a tiny device makes it easy to use for those with arthritis and other problems.

The device is available exclusively from Hearing Solutions UK, the independent provider of high-tech hearing products, including a wide range of conventional hearing aids from the world’s top manufacturers.

The company offers a free nationwide trial – allowing you to try the Phonic Band in your home environment. The XL 2020 Phonic Band not only counters hearing loss, it does it with style...
