Natural cure gives you an air of confidence

- By George Nichols

WE have all suffered from it at one time or other – a problem with wind after eating. Sometimes it is from eating too much, sometimes from eating the wrong food. Flatulence is not in any way a serious medical problem yet it can be a source of great embarrassment. Now, though, there is a way of dealing with it simply and discreetly. WindAway is a charcoal product that quickly gets rid of the problem. The capsules are made from activated charcoal, a process that involves steam heating charcoal to a high temperature which alters its structure, opening up millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms. This results in highly porous charcoal with an increased surface area, making it capable of absorbing unwanted substances. The product from diet supplement specialist Lifeplan, might involve modern technology but activated charcoal was first used for its health properties in the 1800s. Back then charcoal powder would be dispersed in water, although by the 1920s it was available in capsule form, making it easier to take and much more appealing to the mass market. One of the main causes of flatulence is eating foods such as cabbage, broccoli, beans, lentils, raisins and prunes.

These contain fibres or sugars that are hard to digest and are broken down by bacteria in the bowel, causing gas in the system. Overdoing the curries does not help either.

Other causes include swallowing air (usually from chewing gum, smoking and eating too quickly) and health conditions such as gastroenteritis, IBS, lactose intolerance and coeliac disease.

Take WindAway tablets before and after eating and the activated charcoal is dispersed through the digestive system where substances such as chemicals and toxins bind to it. This creates a new molecule that is too large to pass through the walls of the intestine and so passes naturally through the body. WindAway is an all-natural product made from coconut shells encapsulated in a vegetarian shell (so perfect for any diet, including vegan). It involves no chemicals, such as solvents (as found in many other activated charcoal products) and doesn’t absorb nutrients or food supplements. There are no side effects, either, as activated charcoal does not irritate the mucous membranes of the gastrointestinal tract. If you ever feel selfconscious after eating, WindAway can make life so much easier... INFORMATION: WindAway, £4.99 for 30 capsules, is available from Boots, Holland & Barrett and all good independent health food stores.
