Novak could now skip Wimbledon

Roland Garros. The win here last year has brought a lot of different emotions. Obviously it was a thrill and complete fulfillment.

“I lived on that wave of excitement until the US Open or so. And at the US Open, I just was emotionally very flat and found myself in a situation that I hadn’t faced before in my professional tennis career.

“It’s tough to get out of it and figure out the way how to move ahead.

“I’m trying to get better, trying to be on a high level again. I know that I have achieved the biggest heights in this sport, and that memory and that experience gives me reason to believe that I can do it again.”

Certainly, Djokovic is unlikely to be away from the sport for long and he usually restricts himself to the practice courts anyway between Paris and Wimbledon.

His participation at Wimbledon remains highly likely but by no means certain and his final decision could depend on the availability of his part-time coach Agassi. He may think he cannot get through the tournament without the American.

The former world No 1 and Wimbledon champion left Paris on Saturday – with commercial interests limiting the time the pair can spend together – and Agassi has a full diary again during the Wimbledon fortnight.

“Well, we’re going to try to get together in Wimbledon but that’s all for now,” Djokovic said. “I was planning to play only Wimbledon but I’m not really sure right now.”
