Alex hopes to cap dad at last

- Adam Hathaway

ALEX LOZOWSKI has been ribbing father Rob for years about being a one-cap wonder and he could claim real family bragging rights on Saturday in Santa Fe.

The Saracens midfield star made his first England appearance in the madcap 38-34 first Test win over Argentina in San Juan last Saturday – equalling his dad’s tally of caps.

Rob, a centre for Wasps, played his sole Test in 1984 against Australia, losing 19-3 to a side who beat the four home nations.

Lozowski’s parents are touring Argentina seeing the sights and watching their son play but Lozowski jnr is hoping mother Lisa has not put a hex on him winning a second cap.

“I always used to give him grief,” he said. “Obviously I’m hugely proud of him and would boast to my mates that he’d played for England but I’d say: ‘you only got one cap!’ and he would say ‘that’s one more than you!’ So I have managed to equal him.

“On Saturday my mum took a photo and said: ‘this is the one-cap club’. I said: ‘Please don’t jinx me like that, I just want to get more than one.’ We will see if I am playing on the weekend but I am sure he will be happy.” Lozowski, 23, was first picked by Eddie Jones for the autumn squads and has been in every one since without playing until now.

He is competing with Saracens team-mate Owen Farrell, who is now on Lions duty, for an England spot but has been picking his brains.

Lozowski said: “He is world class. His knowledge is just phenomenal, being able to work with him every day is something I am very fortunate to do.”
