Back Hugo into battle after blunder

- Tony Banks

HUGO LLORIS has been told to forget his World Cup howler against Sweden when he leads his country out against England in Paris tonight.

France’s captain has been slated after dashing out of his goal in Friday’s tie and passing the ball straight to Ola Toivonen, who calmly lofted it back over the embarrassed goalkeeper to hand the Swedes a 2-1 win.

His England counterpart Joe Hart has also come in for heavy criticism after his shaky display in the 2-2 draw with Scotland in Glasgow on Saturday and will be on the bench tonight, even though coach Gareth Southgate insists the Manchester City keeper is still his No1 choice.

France coach Didier Deschamps is also supporting Spurs stopper Lloris. “We want to back Hugo up,” he said. “We want him to go back onto the pitch and give it his best shot.”

Deschamps bright young will side field a tonight, including Monaco’s brilliant £100million-rated teenager Kylian Mbappe – a target for Real Madrid, Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool.

Also in the side will be Mbappe’s Monaco team-mate Thomas Lemar and Ousmane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund.

But Deschamps took a swipe at big-spending Premier League clubs raiding his country of their young players, just days after England’s Under-20 team won the World Cup in South Korea. He said: “In the English championship they have more financial means than in France. It is not good for us to see French players leaving for the Premier League because there is more money over there.

“France has always had a good reputation for training youth players. The championship we have here is more open to younger players without experience.

“It is obviously better for them to play as many games as possible.”
