Day Charles chased Diana up corridor with a feather duster

-

For sale… the white jumper Diana wore as a teenage schoolgirl and dance school membership card at Althorp in 1981. When I first met Diana, she was a very pretty, shy, endearing, young girl, but after her engagement to Prince Charles she just grew into such a glamorous and beautiful woman.

“She was lovely to all the staff at Althorp and I thought the world of her. She always used to pop into the kitchen for a chat and sit on the table, swinging her legs. I used to cook her a little joint of lamb, which she loved to pick away at.

“Harry was a little mischief – he stuffed slippers down the loo. After Diana moved to London, Raine Spencer got the staff to clear out her bedroom and told the butler Karl Ackerman to lay out all the contents on a long table in the courtyard so the staff could take anything they wanted.”

The items up for sale include one of Diana’s glittering evening bags, her signed photo ID card from a dance school in Covent Garden, a Harrods hacking jacket she wore as a teenager and two handwritten French vocabulary books she used as a 17-year-old at her Swiss finishing school. There is also a signed photo of relaxed and smiling Prince Charles and Diana with two-year-old Prince William in 1984 before their marriage fell apart.

A white jumper she wore as a teenage schoolgirl is expected to fetch £500-£700.

Diana, whose death 20 years ago in a Paris car crash will be marked by her sons this summer, personally gave some of the mementos to Mrs Tilley.
