Britons bask in 86F tropical blast ...but storm clouds are gathering

- By Nathan Rao

BRITONS were out lapping up the sunshine yesterday…and the good news is that more is on the way.

The hottest parts of the country are about to swelter in a tropical blast of up to 86F (30C).

But the scorching weather will also trigger heavy downpours for some.

Forecaster Jim Dale, of British Weather Services, said: “Southern regions will be warmest although the North is still looking at highs of about 73F or 75F during this spell.

“Although the first part of June has been a bit ropey at times, we are now going into a more decent period of weather.

“It won’t take much to push us into those heatwave-type situations – and this could be the hallmark for the summer as a whole.

“That said, it is not all wallto-wall sunshine. There will be humid periods followed by thunderstorms as the heat breaks down.” However, swathes of the country will bask under blue skies and sunshine with glorious weather forecast into next week.

After a slight cooling off tomorrow and Friday another surge of warmth is due this weekend, forecasters say.

Early indications suggest this could be the theme for the next few weeks as summer finally gets properly under way.

The Met Office said that after a roasting blast today things could turn even hotter over the weekend – likely to be the hottest of the year so far.

Forecaster Oli Claydon predicted today would be the warmest day of the week with tomorrow and Friday slightly fresher. He added: “Signs are this weekend will turn warm again, back into the high 20C with a chance of seeing a 86F (30C) in the South.”

Britons lucky enough to be able to escape work flocked to the great outdoors and seaside yesterday as temperatures started to rise.

But there were warnings of high pollen counts for hay fever sufferers.
