United to seal Lindelof deal

- Mike Whalley MIKE WHALLEY

VICTOR LINDELOF will today complete his £30.75million move from Benfica to Manchester United.

The centre-back, 22, will fly to Manchester for a medical, having been part of the Sweden squad for last night’s friendly against Norway in Oslo.

Lindelof will be the first signing of the summer for Jose Mourinho, who sees him as the ideal partner for Eric Bailly in the centre of defence, with Phil Jones as back-up.

Lindelof, who arrived at Benfica aged 17 from Swedish second-tier club Vasteras in December 2011, helped them win the Portuguese league and cup double last season.

Mourinho is also pursuing Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata as he looks to strengthen his attack after releasing the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

United are seeking to tie up a £60m deal for the Spaniard, who is seeking a fresh start in the Premier League after struggling since his return to the Bernabeu from Juventus last summer. GABRIEL JESUS is set to make a full recovery from his fractured eye socket in time for Manchester City’s pre-season. The youngster, left, was injured in an aerial clash with City colleague Nicolas Otamendi during Brazil’s friendly with Argentina in Melbourne last Friday. Jesus does not know if he will need surgery but said it was “nothing serious”.

FORMER Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri is the new boss of Nantes after French football chiefs gave the go-ahead even though he is over the 65 age limit.
