Onlooker jailed for death image

A RESIDENT who posted pictures on Facebook of a man believed to have leapt to his death from Grenfell Tower has been jailed for three months.

Omega Mwaikambo, 43, posted images on Wednesday of a body bag near his flat and then, after opening it, close-ups of the male victim, including his face.

The court heard the victim has yet to be identified and the defendant had been kept in custody for his own safety after his arrest.

He failed to respond to requests to take the pictures off his “page”.

Yesterday at Westminster magistrates court he pleaded guilty to two counts of sending offending, indecent or obscene matter.

Sentencing Mwaikambo, District Judge Tanweer Ikram said: “To show his face as he lies there is beyond words.

“The dignity of the dead must always be respected.”
