In plastic they are the last straw

-

A WASTE disposal firm called Business Waste is calling for a tax on plastic drinking straws and says manufacturers should revert to old-fashioned paper ones. Plastic straws, it says, are “the ultimate in human wastefulness”.

My mother used to wash and re-use plastic straws which I found horribly embarrassing but obviously she was ahead of her time.

More to the point why does anyone over the age of six want to use a straw? What’s wrong with drinking from a bottle or (radical I know) straight from a glass? And drinking through a straw is bad for your teeth as well so six-year-olds shouldn’t use them either.
