Everyone must march
JOHN McDonnell wants us all to “get out on the streets” to bring down the Government. I knew so many self-important young John McDonnells when I was at university, pavement pounding warriors. But student demos were such fun, traditionally held on a Wednesday afternoon, when the hearties were bussed out to playing fields to do sport (it was rumoured), while the swots hogged the library and everyone else sprawled on bean bags listening to Lou Reed, or went to the launderette.
A demo was an opportunity for fresh air without undue exertion and we sizzled with hormones and righteousness.
Happy days but I may pass on John’s jolly this time.
