-

LITERARY agent Ed Victor, whose clients included Eric Clapton, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber and Nigella Lawson, has died from a heart attack after suffering from chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

Last November he celebrated 40 years as an agent with a star-studded bash attended by David Cameron, for whom he negotiated an £800,000 deal for his Downing Street memoirs.

Born in New York to Russian-Jewish immigrant parents he came to Britain in 1961 on a scholarship to Cambridge University and married his first wife Micheline Samuels.

He began his career working on coffee-table books at publisher Weidenfeld and Nicolson and then worked for US publishing company Knopf. Returning to London in 1976 he set up his own agency. In 2015 he was awarded a CBE.

Victor is survived by second wife Carol and three sons.
