Father’s Day cards in poignant shrine to dad lost in blaze

- By Cyril Dixon

CHILDREN set up a Father’s Day shrine for those lost at Grenfell Tower yesterday.

Flowers and cards were laid among the sea of tributes near the scene of last week’s inferno.

At least five fathers are among those confirmed dead, missing or feared dead after last week’s blaze in North Kensington, west London.

Among the bouquets near Latymer Community Church were two for father-of-four Tony Disson, 65, who became trapped in the bathroom of his 22nd floor flat.

One of the tributes read: “To dad, love you loads, never forget you, RIP, Love, your son Lee.”

Another added: “This will never be forgotten, this will never be let go. We will stay strong because you was strong and never gave up.

“RIP dad. Love Charlie, Alfie and Harry.”

Another card remembered “Dad, the man, the myth, the legend”, while a fellow mourner wrote: “Best dad, we love you, we miss you.”

Mr Disson, who had grandchildren and great-grandchildren, told a friend in a last call: “Tell my sons that I love them.”

Another Father’s Day message said: “Thank you for raising such a beautiful and kind daughter; love you forever, the girls.”

Other missing fathers include Afghan cab driver Saber Neda, 57, who vanished after the fire hit his 23rd floor home.

His wife Shakila, 45, and son Farhad, 24, fled the blaze, but his family say he stayed behind because he was injured.

Mr Neda was last heard of when he made a phone call to a relative to say the building was burning and there was “no help”.

Steve Power, 63, and a father-of-five is believed to have stayed behind because he did not want to leave his two dogs.

Komru Miah, 82, who lived on the 17th floor, is missing alongside his wife Razia Begum, 65, and their children Abdul Hanif, 29, Abdul Hamid, 26, and Hosna Begum Tanima, 22.
