BAKING Britain will get even hotter today with soaring temperatur­es of 95F (35C) likely to see grit lorries sent out to treat melting roads.

Blazing sun, humidity and a lack of wind will make it feel like 100F in parts, with warnings to stay in the shade and drink plenty of water.

Even the Far East was cooler than Britain yesterday.

While the tropical Thai island of Phuket was just 84F, sunlovers in Britain flocked to beaches as the mercury here passed 86F.

It was one of the hottest June weekends on record, around 25F above average for the time of year.

Yesterday was the hottest day of the year, with 90F in Greater London, 77F in Aboyne, Aberdeensh­ire, and 78F in Greater Manchester.

Extreme heat will hold out across the South this week. However, a cold front which brought fresher conditions to the North over the past few days will drift southwards.

Temperatur­es could dip to around 40F in Scotland tomorrow morning while southern England rockets back into the 70Fs.

The Met Office has announced a “level 3” amber heatwave warning, lasting until Wednesday.

Met Office forecaster Charlie Powell said: “There is no sign of rapid change through the week and into the weekend.”

Experts have warned drivers to take care with blazing sun likely to push “road temperatur­es” to 122F.

The RAC said road surfaces can become soft, making skidding more likely. Rod Dennis warned:
