Pakistan’s triumph
PAKISTAN captain Sarfraz Ahmed saluted his players for transforming themselves from no hopers into heroes by thrashing India in the Champions Trophy final at the Oval yesterday.
Pakistan pulled off a huge shock to stun India, winning by 180 runs after posting a brilliant 338-4.
“We played like we had nothing to lose and now we are champions,” said Sarfraz. “It’s a proud moment for me and my country.” Pakistan were the lowest ranked side in the tournament and lost badly against India in their opening game.
“Afterwards I told my boys, ‘the tournament is not finished yet,’” said Sarfraz.
Fakhar Zaman was the man of the match for his sublime 114.
