Tribute to murdered student

- By Chris Riches

A HEARTBROKEN teenager paid tribute to his murdered girlfriend yesterday after her body was found at a beauty spot at the weekend.

Ryan Warren said student Ellen Higginbottom, 18, who failed to return home from college on Friday, would “remain in his heart forever”.

Ellen’s body was found at Orrell Water Park in Wigan, Greater Manchester, on Saturday at 2.30am.

Yesterday two men, one aged 47 from Wigan, and the other aged 51 from Preston were being quizzed on suspicion of her murder.

A floral tribute left at the scene by police officers read: “We are so sorry we couldn’t get to you on time. Rest with the angels.”

Ryan added: “I cannot begin to put into words the roller-coaster of emotions that hit us all in waves.

“I know that you will be sorely missed by everyone.

“I loved you Ellen, I wanted to travel the world with you and explore like we planned. I’m so sorry that I cannot take you to all those amazing places we wanted to see. Ellen, sleep well and may we meet again.”
