PICKS OF THE DAY

-

Comedy: Peter Kay’s Comedy Shuffle, 9pm, BBC1

Comedian, actor, writer and director Peter Kay (left) continues his nostalgic look back on his eventful career to date. It is hard to think, after 18 years, of a time without the larger-than-life Boltonian on our screens. Tonight, both Peter and his Phoenix Nights character Brian Potter, the wheelchair-bound club owner, receive mysterious phone calls, while in Car Share John and Kayleigh discuss naturists on their way home from another day in the supermarket.

Gardening: RHS: Tatton Flower Show 2017, 7.30pm, BBC2

In the concluding part from Cheshire, Monty Don and Joe Swift review the gardens created by the finalists in the RHS Young Designer of the Year competition, and reveal the winners of the prestigious Best Show Garden and Best Back to Back Garden. Arit Anderson examines a garden designed to adapt to the changing climate, while Carol Klein (above with Don, left, and Swift, right) investigates the rise in popularity of cacti.

Soap: Coronation Street, 7.30pm & 8.30pm, ITV

The police arrive in Weatherfield during a busy evening on the cobbles. Craig (Colson Smith, left) insists that Bethany (Lucy Fallon, left with Smith) phones the authorities. DC Leigh calls and awash with shame, the teenager describes how Nathan cajoled her into having sex with Neil. After listening to what she has to say, the officers reveal Neil will feel the full force of the law. Phelan is shocked by Nicola’s request for a DNA sample while Adam tells Eva she needs to persuade Aidan to give her a job in the office. Jenny and Alya are furious when Aidan tells them Eva will be moving into the office to learn about the business side of things and Toyah confides in Leanne that she thinks she might be pregnant.

Film: Legally Blonde, 7.55pm, Channel 5

Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon, above right) appears to be just another dizzy teenager – but something changes. Her boyfriend dumps her because he thinks she is not intelligent enough to help his political career and that starts a whole new chapter in the young girl’s life. To prove him wrong she enrols at Harvard. Comedy, co-starring, Luke Wilson and Sally Field (above left).

Gameshow: Letterbox, 6.30pm, BBC2

We love early evening gameshows and we love former Great British Bake Off host Mel Giedroyc (right) and so Letterbox is right up our street. The name of the game is for pairs of contestants to go head-to-head, attempting to crack a series of passwords in a bid to walk away from the studio £2,500 better off. One of the best play-along-at-home gameshows, it is the perfect thing to sit down to watch after finishing your tea!
