ABSOLUTE MADNESS

Illegal migrant who burst into a church wanting to kill the English walks free from court and isn’t even deported

- By Paul Jeeves

A DRUNKEN illegal immigrant has escaped jail even after he threatened to kill churchgoers.

Despite living in the UK for nine years, Iraqi Zana Hassan boasted how much he hated the English before storming into a Methodist church during Sunday service.

After police arrested him he shouted: “I will ******* kill you and kill all the English ******** .” This prompted magistrates this week to ask the Crown Prosecution Service to review the case to decide whether

he should face more serious charges. However, CPS lawyers deemed the offence “low-level disorder” and declined the request.

That enabled Hassan, 29, who sneaked into the UK in 2008, to escape with just a conditional discharge ordering him to stay 100 yards away from the church.

He walked free after Home Office officials failed to take the opportunity to seek a deportation order.

Last night Ukip MEP Mike Hookem demanded Hassan, of Bishop Auckland, be deported.

He said: “Do we really need this sort of person in our country? Families will have been attending church and in the current climate would be absolutely terrified by this man rushing in making threats.

“He caused terror and distress so of course there should have been a more serious charge than public order.

“It’s ridiculous. He’s been here all this time and I doubt the authorities know anything about him but hopefully now he will at least be kicked out.” George Richardson, Conservative county councillor for Barnard Castle East, said: “It seems someone needs to be killed before they get a bigger sentence.

“These days with the amount of terrorist attacks it would be a great concern.”

Hassan admitted the racially aggravated public order offence, which took place in Barnard Castle, County Durham, on Sunday July 9, when he appeared before magistrates in Newton Aycliffe.

Ansab Shan, prosecuting, told the court how a young family outside the church saw the defendant sat on a bench become increasingly aggressive.

He said: “The witness heard him talking about Iraq and his hatred of the English and he was swearing.

“The defendant then walked into the church and even though the service had started he walked straight to the front and began shouting and swearing. Members of the congregation, which included children, were clearly upset by the defendant’s actions.

“The witness, along with other worshippers, tried to escort him outside the church. After a short while police arrived and arrested the defendant.

“The defendant then became more aggressive and abusive and began shouting, ‘I will ******* kill you and kill all the English ******** . He made references to the war in Iraq.”

Mitigating, Ben Pagman revealed Hassan had been in the UK since 2008 but was “effectively here illegally without permission to remain”.

He said because he had no National Insurance number he could not work or claim benefits and so had got drunk.

Handing down the conditional discharge, bench chairman Nick Edger said: “With regards to sentence, our hands as a bench are tied.”

Last night a CPS spokesman said: “This case was reviewed by a CPS prosecutor, in accordance with the Code for Crown Prosecutors, prior to a decision being taken in relation to the applicable charges.”

A Home Office spokesman declined to comment on Hassan’s case but said: “Through our Immigration Act 2016, we have made it more difficult for people to remain in the UK illegally by incentivising voluntary returns, introducing tougher penalties for illegal working, and restricting illegal migrants’ access to services.”

DRUNKEN Iraqi immigrant Zana Hussan, who is living in this country illegally, walked into a church during a Sunday service, screamed expletives and abuse at worshippers and then, after he had been arrested, threatened to “kill all the English ******** ”.

It is not difficult to imagine the outcry if a white Briton walked into a mosque and did something similar. Quite rightly the perpetrator would be condemned for their insensitive, offensive and hostile behaviour. Meanwhile the courts would have handed down the toughest sentence possible quicker than you can say the words “hate crime”.

The rules though seem to be different when it is a Middle Eastern man at fault and the victims are British Christians. The Crown Prosecution Service charged Hussan only with committing a racially aggravated public order offence, even ignoring advice from magistrates who did not consider this sufficient to cover the seriousness of his actions.

Anybody with a semblance of common sense can see that this man, who has no right to be here and has hardly made himself a welcome guest, needs to be deported as quickly as possible.

Even if that were not possible – and we know how hard European human rights laws make it to deport criminals – at the very least he deserved to be jailed for advocating violence and spreading hatred.

In the end though the magistrates’ hands were tied and they were forced to let Hussan go with just a conditional discharge and a restraining order keeping him away from the church.

The craven CPS and the politically correct apparatchiks who run it have yet again made a mockery of justice.
