Klopp sets a lot of store by Andy

- STEVE MADELEY

JURGEN KLOPP has hailed Andy Robertson’s “incredible personal journey” after signing the Scotland left-back from Hull.

Robertson, 23, has gone from a supermarket job and part-time football with Queen’s Park to a Champions League side in the space of four years after moving to Anfield in a deal worth about £8 million.

He now has a chance to establish himself as the answer to a problem position for the club, which was filled for most of last season by converted midfielder James Milner.

And Robertson’s route to the top has not been lost on Klopp, whose net outlay on the deal is negligible after midfielder Kevin Stewart moved in the opposite direction for a similar fee.

“For Andrew this is another big step on what has been a quite incredible personal journey,” said Klopp.

Robertson said: “It feels a wee bit surreal just now.

“My family are proud of what I’ve achieved so far.” WEST BROM are targeting a club-record move for £25million-rated Portugal midfielder Adrien Silva. Baggies boss Tony Pulis has turned to the Sporting Lisbon man, 28, as a possible replacement for Darren Fletcher, who has joined Stoke. Sources in Portugal claim Albion have lodged a £23m bid for Silva, left.

NEWCASTLE have signed former Liverpool and Sunderland defender Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
