American’s amber warning to rivals

JORDAN SPIETH fought his way through the wind and the rain to lead the Open while his rivals’ dreams were tossed and blown away.

A heavy downpour early last night led to an amber warning from the Met Office and a suspension of play at 5.36pm for nine minutes due to the pooling of water on the course.

The conditions meant Spieth finished as one of only eight players who managed to break par.
