Harry’s a natural, declares Sir Mark

-

SIR MARK RYLANCE is considered by many to be one of the greatest actors of his generation and his latest film Dunkirk sees him cast alongside one of the biggest pop stars of the age, former One Direction singer Harry Styles.

In an interview with Day & Night, the Oscar and Bafta winner tells us that his famous co-star didn’t require any expert advice from him because the 23-year-old was already so good.

“I didn’t need to give Harry Styles tips. He is natural,” says Sir Mark, 57, before admitting he found shooting the Second World War drama deeply moving. “There are so many young actors in the film and it tugs at your heart. You see them in these uniforms and you think they [the soldiers] were that young and it is so violent.”

And though he has become something of a movie star in recent years, he has no intention of relocating to the US because of his passion for the stage. “I won’t be moving to Hollywood. I can’t go very far from theatre plays,” says the man who was the director of Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London from 1995 to 2005.

He adds: “There isn’t enough acting in films, there is too much waiting around. I just adore the whole routine of going into a theatre and doing a play eight times a week and having dinner afterwards.

“I’ve got so many friends who are part of the theatre business that nothing will ever replace it for me.”
