‘Martyr desire’ of the jihadi teen bride

- By John Twomey

A TEENAGE jihadi bride with a “desire to become a martyr” appeared in court yesterday charged with plotting a UK terror attack with an Islamic State fighter she married online.

The 17-year-old, who cannot be named, allegedly communicated with the man in Raqqa, Syria, to arrange the delivery of weapons to be used in the atrocity.

She was also given instructions on how to operate the weapons, it is claimed.

The girl was charged in April with engaging in conduct in preparation for acts of terrorism.

She appeared at Westminster magistrates’ court yesterday charged with committing acts of terrorism.

Attack

Prosecutor Karen Jones said: “She was arrested on Wednesday for being involved in attack planning in the UK. This occurred while she has been on bail in relation to these matters.

“Having had plans to travel to Syria thwarted, she continued to engage with a Daesh (IS) fighter in Raqqa who she married in September on Skype.

“They hatched a plan to conduct an attack in the UK. He was involved in speaking to others connected with the plan.

“The defendant then spoke to others and told exactly what that plan was. She had a desire to become a martyr.”

Wearing a blue and white tracksuit with her hair pulled back into a ponytail, the girl spoke only to confirm her name, age and address.

She was remanded in custody to appear at the Old Bailey on August 11.
