War in White House as new spokesman launches foul tirade

-

Mr Scaramucci’s rant came during a telephone call to a journalist from The New Yorker magazine.

In the interview, which he later claimed to have thought was off the record, he referred to himself in the third person saying: “The Mooch showed up a week ago. This is going to get cleaned up very shortly, OK?”

He accused Mr Priebus – whose job he is said to want – of leaking to journalists and said he would “be asked to resign very shortly”.

Referring to Mr Bannon, he said: “I’m not trying to build my own brand off the ******* strength of the president. I’m here to serve the country.”

Mr Scaramucci also vented his anger at the leak about a White House dinner he attended last week with the President, the First Lady, Sean Hannity, the Fox News journalist, and Bill Shine, a former Fox executive. He said he would “fire everybody” in the communications office, “******* kill all the leakers” and report them to the “FBI and the ******* Department of Justice”.

Senior Republicans were said to be shocked by the outburst, which came in the same week President Trump turned on his attorney general Jeff Sessions. The chaos looks set to continue, with White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders saying the President is encouraging the infighting as he believes it is healthy competition.

On Twitter, Mr Scaramucci apologised for using what he called “colourful language”. President Trump faced further woes yesterday when the Senate failed to pass a key healthcare reform. He lost the vote after three Republican senators rebelled.

The President made repealing Obamacare – President Obama’s health law – one of his key election pledges.
