- From Daniel Bates in New York

DONALD Trump’s new chief of staff shouted at the President during a heated confrontation at the White House, it emerged yesterday.

John Kelly reportedly raised his voice during a meeting about immigration after first asking other people to leave the room.

The Oval Office showdown occurred when Mr Kelly was in his previous role as Homeland Security Secretary.

President Trump appointed him to his new role last week to help to stabilise the West Wing, which has recently been rocked by staff turmoil.

Mr Trump fired his communications director Anthony Scaramucci on Monday, after just 10 days in the job.

The previous chief of Reince Priebus, was fired Friday.

Mr Kelly, a four-star Marine Corps General who served in Iraq, is staff, last known as a straight-talking, no-nonsense military man. He reportedly demanded to speak to the President alone in the Oval Office after Mr Trump complained loudly that the US was admitting travellers from countries he viewed as high risk. Mr Kelly allegedly said such admissions were standard but Mr Trump said it made him look bad. At that point, Mr Kelly asked everyone to leave the room, after which loud voices could apparently be heard through the doors. Blain Rethmeier, a PR executive who has worked with Mr Kelly in the past, said that the White House showdown proved there was a “new sheriff in town”.

He added: “If he disagrees with you, he’ll disagree respectfully.”

Yesterday, Mr Trump defended his use of Twitter as he tweeted that the stock market was marching towards an all-time high.

He said that “jobs are starting to roar” and added that tweeting was the “only way for me to get the truth out”.

Mr Trump faced fresh trouble last night over a Washington Post Author JK Rowling was rebuked by the child’s mother for criticising Mr Trump report claiming he dictated a statement his son gave on his talks with a Russian lawyer during the election campaign, a statement that was later proven to be misleading.

It said Donald Trump Jnr’s meeting was primarily about the adoption of Russian children.

But it emerged that Donald Jnr had been told in an email that the lawyer could have incriminating evidence about Hillary Clinton, Mr Trump’s election rival.

The White House said Mr Trump weighed in on the statement by his son as “any father would”.
