STEPH’S OWN-GOAL

SANCHEZ TO FACE THE FANS

- Ian Gordon Tony Leighton Tony Banks

ENGLAND keeper Karen Bardsley has been ruled out of the rest of Euro 17 after having her leg broken – by team-mate Steph Houghton.

Bardsley sustained her injury in Sunday’s 1-0 quarter-final win over France.

England meet hosts Holland in the semi-finals tomorrow and head coach Mark Sampson said: “Steph gave her a right whack by mistake. It was a hell of a bump.

“We’re devastated for KB. She’s upset, but she’ll still play a big part off the field in helping us. Siobhan Chamberlain will come in.” USAIN BOLT has warned his fellow athletes the sport will die if it does not stop the drug cheats.

The 11-time world and eight-time Olympic champion said athletics had reached its low point after Russia was booted out over its wide-ranging doping programme.

Bolt insists the sport is cleaning up its act but that would be put at risk if athletes continue to try to cheat.

The Jamaican, due to retire after the World Championships in London, said yesterday: “Hopefully athletes will see what’s going on and understand that if they don’t stop what they’re doing, the sport will die.

“Hopefully they’ll understand what the sport is going through and what they need to do as athletes to help the sport move forward. The sport was at its low point after the scandal with Russia. But I think it’s on the way back up now. You can never be happy ALEXIS SANCHEZ will face Arsenal fans for the first time this summer tomorrow as he tries to force his way out of the club.

The Chilean, who returned to light training yesterday after being given an extra two days off to recover from flu, will be at a Members’ Day open session.

He will not be ready for Sunday’s Community Shield clash with Chelsea but the unsettled striker is expected to be fit for the Premier League opener at Leicester on Friday week.

The Gunners star, below, has refused to sign a new £300,000-a-week deal and has been linked with a move to Manchester City.

Sanchez, 28, whose current contract runs out at the end of this season, flew back into London yesterday and immediately went to the training ground.

Manager Arsene Wenger says he has been in touch with the 30-goal hitman throughout the summer and insists he will not be leaving.

City are confident of landing Sanchez but the Gunners maintain they want to keep him, even if he runs down his contract.

Watford are closing in on a £15m deal for Arsenal full-back Kieran Gibbs.
