Callous jogger shoves woman into path of bus
A WOMAN comes within inches of death when a jogger shoves her out of his way into the path of an approaching bus, as this shocking footage appears to show.
Only the driver’s “superb” quick reactions saved her when he swerved just in time. But the jogger ran on apparently unconcerned.
The 33-year-old victim was walking across Putney Bridge, south-west London, when a man in shorts suddenly veered towards her.
Without warning, he shoved her off her feet over a kerb and into the road in front of the bus.
The driver managed to steer clear of the sprawling woman but the wheels of the 12-ton double decker vehicle came within inches of her head.
He slammed on the brakes and passengers leapt off to come to the woman’s aid.
The extraordinary incident happened around 7.40am on Friday, May 5.
Police have only now released dramatic CCTV footage in a bid to identify the callous jogger.
Amazingly, the same man returned 15 minutes later as he ran the other way across the bridge.
Still shaken, the woman tried to confront him but he acted as if nothing had happened, refused to acknowledge her and ran off again.
Luckily she sustained only minor injuries, said police.
CCTV footage clearly shows the woman’s attacker.
The jogger was white, in his early to mid 30s, with short, brown hair and brown eyes.
He was wearing a light grey T-shirt, dark blue shorts, white socks and grey or blue trainers.
Police appealed for information yesterday as they praised the actions of the bus driver.
Sergeant Mat Knowles, from Putney Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “The victim was put in extreme danger when she was knocked into the road.
“It was only due to the superb quick reactions of the bus driver that she was not hit by the vehicle.” He asked witnesses to call 020 8785 8874 or, to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
