Eamonn’s cool about Strictly curse as wife waltzes on to show

- By Giles Sheldrick

RUTH Langsford has vowed the dreaded Strictly Come Dancing curse will not leave her marriage to TV partner Eamonn Holmes in a spin.

Loose Women star Ruth, 57, was yesterday unveiled as the latest recruit on the hit BBC show, which has earned a reputation for wrecking relationships.

But both Ruth and Eamonn, who co-present ITV’s This Morning, are cool with the so-called curse – and have an agreement should either of them stray.

The pair married in 2010 and are one of the most well-known celebrity couples in Britain. Ruth insists any cheating would result in the last waltz for their marriage.

She said: “If I found out he had cheated that would be the end of our marriage.

“Eamonn always says – not that he’s tempted to have an affair, I hasten to add – that if that ever happened and I found out he would hand over all the keys and say ‘I’m off’. He knows that even if I tried to forgive and tried to make it work, I’m the type of woman that would bring it up at every opportunity. I couldn’t handle it. It would be hell.”

Eamonn, 57, declared his love for Ruth, with whom he has a son, Jack, and said: “When I’ve seen pictures of Ruth in her life when she was younger, before I knew her, at every single stage I would have fancied her. The 25-year-old me, the 35-yearold me and the 40-year-old me would have looked at her and said, ‘I fancy you’.”

A string of celebrities and professional dancers have split from their partners since Strictly first hit our screens in 2004, leading to talk of a curse.

Last year’s beaten finalist Louise Redknapp, 42, is the latest star to have experienced troubles after reportedly moving out of the home she shared with husband and ex-England footballer Jamie.

Ruth, an ambassador for Alzheimer’s Society, is ready to hit the dancefloor. But she said: “The sum of my dance experience is throwing a few shapes at a party. I’ve never had a dance lesson in my life. It will be the scariest yet most exciting thing I’ve ever done. It’ll be a welcome change worrying about my next hot move instead of my next hot flush.”

Eamonn yesterday joked Ruth would be an “inspiration to older women around the country”.

She joins EastEnders actor Davood Ghadami, 35, and The Saturdays singer Mollie King, 30, for the 15th series of Strictly, which starts this autumn on BBC One.

EAMONN HOLMES has joked that his wife and This Morning co-host Ruth Langsford will be an “inspiration to older women” when she appears on Strictly Come Dancing. It’s hard to imagine that’s gone down well at home. He’ll have to be a lot more supportive than that when the show begins in the autumn.
