Quickie divorce for Ryan Giggs, 43
FORMER Manchester United star Ryan Giggs’ 10-year marriage to wife Stacey ended yesterday in a 43-second quickie divorce hearing.
The couple, who have two children, have yet to agree on her share of his estimated £48million fortune.
Neither was at the Central Family Court in London for the hearing.
Mrs Giggs, 39, whose maiden name is Cooke, was granted a decree nisi by District Judge Yvonne Gibson.
She must wait for six weeks and a day before applying for a decree absolute. Afterwards her lawyer James Brown said Mrs Giggs aims to “finalise all outstanding aspects of the divorce” as quickly as possible.
He added: “Mrs Giggs’ primary focus has always been, and will continue to be, the welfare of her family.
“Her only interest is in bringing these events to as swift and amicable a conclusion as possible, so that she and her family can move on.”
Giggs, 43, and his ex-wife, who lived in Worsley, Greater Manchester, split in April, last year.
They had been together since 2003.
Earlier this year, lawyers for Giggs told a High Court judge the footballer had made a “special contribution” to the creation of wealth during the marriage.
There may be a further High Court hearing over the division of assets later this year.
Giggs made a record 963 appearances for United over 24 seasons and won 64 caps for Wales. He retired as a player three years ago.
