Alesha’s voice helping wildlife

-

FORMER pop star Alesha Dixon could reignite her music career – if it was all in the name of charity.

The Britain’s Got Talent beauty, who sits alongside Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and David Walliams as a judge on the hit ITV show, has been – unbeknown to most viewers – an animal-rights activist for the past five years.

“It’s one of my biggest passions,” the down-to-earth star exclusively tells Day & Night at Q&A session How To Be An Animal-Friendly Traveller With Alesha Dixon. “My life changed when I went on holiday in Thailand several years ago and visited a circus. I was initially so excited but spent the entire time balling my eyes out when I saw the horrific treatment of the animals and the encased blood on a performing elephant. I looked around the cheering audience and wondered, ‘Is no one else noticing this!’” The 38-year-old, who promptly teamed up with World Animal Protection wildlife experts and Intrepid Travel – an organisation that pushes responsible travel and tourism – is not ruling out making a charity single for the cause.

“You never know!” says The Boy Does Nothing hit-maker. “I never say never.” In the meantime the mum-of-one, who found fame in girl band Mis-Teeq before becoming a household name as a winner and then judge on Strictly, is rallying her famous pals.

“Yes, [Simon] loves animals,” says the World Animal Protection ambassador.

“All my friends and people I work with happily spread the word and support the cause. Hopefully it’ll catch on with fans.”
