Jos the start for Newcastle

- ALEX CROOK Jason Mellor

SOUTHAMPTON appear to be resigning themselves to life without Virgil van Dijk as they line up a £15 million move for Lazio defender Wesley Hoedt.

Saints manager Mauricio Pellegrino believes Hoedt, right, would be a ready-made replacement for his fellow Dutchman, who is desperate to leave and handed in a transfer request last week. RAFA BENITEZ wants four more signings this summer after sealing a £5million move for Stoke striker Joselu.

The 27-year-old becomes Newcastle’s sixth new player since the end of last season after agreeing terms for £50,000 a week to play in the North-east.

Former Spain Under-21 international Joselu is keen to kick-start his Premier League career after being farmed out on loan last season to Deportivo La Coruna in Spain.

That came after a disappointing first season in the Potteries. Despite Toon owner Mike Ashley saying he will not spend hugely, Benitez is confident of eventually clinching a loan deal for Brazilian midfielder Kenedy from Chelsea. He is also keen on Legia Warsaw defender Michal Pazdan, Arsenal striker Lucas Perez and Udinese’s Greek keeper Orestis Karnezis. Emmanuel Riviere, Massadio Haidara, Tim Krul and Jack Colback are expected to leave to make way for the new arrivals. BRIGHTON are keen to bring Swansea flop Eder back to the Premier League from Lille. The Seagulls want Eder, left, on loan to bolster their injury-hit attack. Lille are holding out for a permanent deal. Despite scoring the winner for Portugal in the final of Euro 2016, Eder failed to find the net in 13 league games for Swansea in 2015-16. Brighton have only two fit strikers. ●BOURNEMOUTH winger Max Gradel is joining Toulouse on loan for the rest of the season. The Ivory Coast star made just 11 appearances last season, all off the bench.
