Policewoman stalked couple in bid to harm their marriage

- By Ashlie McAnally

A POLICE officer who became “fixated” with a married man hacked his social media accounts and posted slurs about his wife, a court was told.

Ashley Boyd, 26, developed an obsession with Kevin O’Connor who had married a former friend.

Boyd got into his Facebook account and changed his relationship status to “single” and sent messages to his friends talking about his “unhappy marriage” to wife Rhona.

She also hacked his Twitter account and posted an offensive comment about Mrs O’Connor.

On another occasion, Mr O’Connor took his wife to hospital for an appointment, only to be told that it had been cancelled by Mrs O’Connor.

Investigations revealed Boyd phoned the hospital twice. First she claimed to be Mrs O’Connor to find out when her appointment was. She then called back to cancel the appointment with the secretary. Boyd, of Moodiesburn, North Lanarkshire, who resigned from Police Scotland last year, persuaded a friend to give a false statement to police, taking the blame for the Twitter post.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday, Boyd pleaded guilty to causing Rhona and Kevin O’Connor fear and alarm by stalking. She also admitted attempting to pervert the course of justice.

Fancied

The court heard there was “absolutely no romantic or sexual relationship” between Mr O’Connor and Boyd.

Procurator fiscal depute Andrew Beadsworth said: “Boyd appears to have become fixated upon Kevin O’Connor.”

Mrs O’Connor befriended Boyd when they worked together at Boots although the later deteriorated.

Kevin O’Connor went to the Boots store in January 2014 and was served by Boyd who told him she knew his wife and hinted that a number of women in the shop “fancied” him.

Boyd told a friend she had a “fancy for him” and went to the same gym knowing he would be there.

In June last year, Mr and Mrs O’Connor were on holiday abroad when his sister texted him to say his Facebook page had been changed to say he was single.

After they returned home, Mr O’Connor discovered his social media and email accounts had been hacked.

When police investigated the computer address used to hack the Facebook account, it led them to Boyd.

Sheriff Paul Crozier told the former policewoman she would be sentenced next month. friendship
