Terrifying moment door flies off car and into traffic
Shocking sight... The door is separated from car roof and flies through the air MOTORISTS were left terrified as a door fell from the roof of a moving car and flew into the path of other vehicles.
A shocked couple captured the drama on a dashcam as the wooden door flew straight into oncoming traffic on a busy dual carriageway.
Kelly McIntosh, 34, was in the passenger seat as her partner drove on the A380, near Newton Abbot, Devon, behind a white Volkswagen Golf.
In the video the Golf can be seen overtaking cars and travelling at speed despite clearly having something strapped to its roof.
The door, reportedly made of wood with glass panels, is then ripped away from the roof and flies through the air into oncoming traffic, narrowly missing a van.
Kelly, a mother of two and full-time carer from Exeter, shared the video online to raise awareness of road safety. She said whoever was driving the car “could have killed people”.
Immediately after the fright on Thursday morning, the Golf reportedly pulled over in the fast lane – creating more chaos.
Kelly said: “We could see the door was loosely tied down with one bungee cord and we saw it go into the road.
“The door flew off, over the van, and into the river. Part of the roof rack also went into the road and we had to avoid it.
“We were in absolute fear, expecting to see cars crashing.”
