Police photograph of Sivak’s failed attempt to hide A BURGLAR mocked for his incompetent attempt to hide from the police was spared jail yesterday.

When Jan Sivak, 30, failed to surrender to court bail for stealing from a fish and chip shop magistrates issued a warrant for his arrest.

West Yorkshire Police officers visited Sivak’s home address in Halifax and gained entry when the defendant refused to answer.

Amused officers found the thief when they entered his bedroom and they spotted his legs sticking Jan Sivak... let off jail out from underneath his bed. Before formally arresting Sivak they took a photograph and posted it on social media with the caption: “A male in Calderdale who was wanted by police decided to try hide this morning when they went to his property looking for him.

“You will not be surprised to find out that yes we did find him – he will not be winning any awards for hide and seek champion soon.” After he was caught he appeared at Bradford magistrates court, where he was locked up for 14 days after he admitted failing to surrender.

But yesterday when Sivak was in court again and admitted to stealing £3,000 in cash and other goods from the upstairs office of the fish and chip shop, he was allowed to go free.

Appearing at Bradford Crown Court Sivak received an eight month sentence, suspended for 12 months.

He will also have to complete 250 hours unpaid work.
