When filming Miss Beatty’s Children in Ooty, India, in the early Nineties, I got a tummy upset but the medicine made it worse. Eventually I was given a jab to settle everything down.
BEST SOUVENIR?
Some beautiful jewellery in Jerusalem I picked up when filming Appointment With Death in the late Eighties.
I loved Israel and visited Tel Aviv and Haifa. I hired a car and explored with Hayley Mills, going to the Dead Sea and having lemonade with Coptic monks in a monastery.
BEST HOLIDAY READ?
I don’t have one, as I read at home and then just focus on exploring and being active when I’m on holiday.
HOW DO YOU SPEND YOUR TIME ON HOLIDAY?
I like to hire a car, do a bit of swimming or other sports. I’m not great at sunbathing.
When I was filming in Zimbabwe once and had a weekend free, I went to Hwange National Park. I’m a patron for Born Free and as animals are a huge passion of mine. I went to Shamwari Reserve in South Africa, which was very special.
WHERE WOULD YOU LIKE TO REVISIT?
India, as I just found it so extraordinarily vibrant and interesting. I have never been to St Petersburg or the Andes but would love to. I went to Jersey to research the film Another Mother’s Son but we ended up shooting it in Bath and around Wiltshire to create a period piece.
WHERE NEXT?
I have no plans to go away this year as we have a very old spaniel Louie whom we don’t want to leave.
I will be spending a lot of time at Mane Chance Sanctuary in Surrey, developing an eight-week mindfulness programme.
I will be on stage in the autumn in the West End.
