Kasey’s Blues family fortunes

- Mike Whalley

NEW dad Kasey Palmer is already storing up football memories for his young son at Huddersfield but wants to add a few more at Stamford Bridge.

Palmer, 20, wants to use his second loan stint in West Yorkshire to prove that he has a longterm future at Chelsea.

In 2017 the midfielder became a father for the first time, to Leo, as well as helping the Terriers reach the Premier League via the play-offs. Chelsea gave him a contract extension last month, committing him to them until 2021, but still sent him back to Huddersfield for a season-long loan.

Palmer, set to line up against Newcastle tomorrow said: “It was a bit frustrating at Chelsea, but to come here and play in the Premier League is to fulfil my dream.

“I’ve just got to focus on that and show why I should be in the Chelsea team. I see myself playing for Chelsea in the future. If I didn’t, I would have been silly to sign a new contract in the summer. But we will see next summer and look at it again going forward.”

As for Newcastle’s Jacob Murphy, he grew up dreaming of wearing a Newcastle shirt and now is doing it for real.

At just 22, Newcastle is the eighth club he has played for after going out on loan six times in under two years at Norwich. Murphy – and twin Josh – may have been brought up a goal-kick away from Wembley Stadium but with a mum from Gateshead and dad from Ashington, there was only one team they were ever going to support.

“I’ve been a fan from the beginning,” said Murphy, who is in line to start at Huddersfield having been on the bench for last Sunday’s defeat by Tottenham.

“My first game was a 2-1 UEFA Cup win against PSV Eindhoven in 2004. It captured my imagination from that moment. That was a good era for Newcastle – always in Europe.”
