Doctor ‘groped and kissed colleague as he treated patients’

- By Stewart Whittingham

A DOCTOR kissed a colleague and groped her while treating patients, a medical tribunal heard yesterday.

Dr Faisal Khan, 38, then allegedly asked the healthcare assistant if she was wearing any underwear, adding: “Don’t worry I’ll find out later.”

The married NHS registrar is also accused of rubbing his groin against her and putting his hand on her hip as he began an invasive treatment on a patient’s bladder.

The woman, known only as Colleague A, said she was reduced to tears and left “shaking” by the alleged unwanted advances in the hospital.

She also claims he stroked her face and told her how “lovely” she was as one patient got undressed behind a curtain at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, Somerset, in May last year.

Colleague A told the tribunal: “There was a patient fully exposed in front of me and I didn’t want to startle them.

“I was uncomfortable and scared but I needed to maintain my job.”

Dr Khan then tried to kiss her but only pecked her right cheek as she turned away and then fled the room, the Manchester tribunal heard.

The General Medical Council’s lawyer Sarah Lewis said: “Dr Khan asked her if she was wearing any underwear. She responded, ‘Did you just ask me if I’m wearing any pants?’

“The doctor laughed and said, ‘Don’t worry, I will find out later.’

“Colleague A felt shocked as she had not heard banter like that before. “In the next procedure Dr Khan stood behind her, placed his hand on her hip and started to rub himself on her.

“After she made a formal complaint, Dr Khan said there was no excuse for his behaviour and he felt ashamed. He accepted at times he got carried away and didn’t act appropriately.”

Khan, of Taunton, denies misconduct and says any touching was “inadvertent”. The hearing continues.
