Take a fresh approach
RECENTLY back from your holiday in a lovely hotel or rental cottage and despairing at the clutter in your bathroom? Clever storage is the solution. But before you think about cupboards you need to find room for the bath, sink and toilet; which is where sinks with drawers underneath and baths with a back shelf are useful.
Karen Barcoo, marketing supervisor at Catalano UK, says: “Storage that fits into awkward spaces will make the most of cramped corners.” And she has another simple solution. “Consider over-door hooks to hang drying towels, this will free up floor and wall space.”
John Sims-Hilditch, co-founder of Neptune, says: “When organising bathroom cabinets, create tiers with wooden blocks so smaller items can be seen at the front and larger items can be set further back. That way you know what you’ve got and where it is.”
Minimalist
As for the luxury hotel look, Waters Baths of Ashbourne has two new back-to-wall baths with a touch of freestanding decadence.
Director Anthony Smith says: “They provide the best of both worlds and the minimalist, all-in-one design combines the luxurious aesthetic of a freestanding bath with the space-saving, practical benefits of a back-to-wall bath.”
And a touch of colour or geometric patterns will create a wow factor.
Claire O’Brien, head of design at British Ceramic Tile, says a more eclectic approach is emerging. “Pattern is increasingly popular. It’s no longer the norm to use the same tiles on walls and floors; a patterned floor allows us to express our individualism and create a personal, inviting space.” OUT OF SIGHT: There’s a place for everything in this Neptune Chichester cabinet painted in shell, £2,450, with Carrara marble top, £780, and taps, £205 each (01793 427427; neptune.com)
