Crash killer spared return to jail after drunken attack

- By Jan Disley

A DRINK-DRIVER on parole from jail after killing a cyclist in a crash launched a drunken attack on a fan at a rap gig, a court heard.

Emma Egan, 29, battered a dental nurse who objected to Egan’s friend Fouad Elhabbal, 27, urinating on a woman fan.

Ex-beauty therapist Egan is on licence from a four-year sentence for mowing down father-of-two Eric Codling, 55, in Sheffield in 2014.

But magistrates spared her another spell behind bars because she has a “promising future”.

Prosecutor Carl Miles told Manchester magistrates the assault happened after Gary Tann, his friend Kayleigh Love and two other friends sat in front of Egan and Elhabbal for the American rap star Drake’s concert at Manchester Arena in February.

Mr Miles said: “Elhabbal urinated on one of the females and an argument ensued. The group stood up in front of them but Egan squared up to Mr Tann and pushed him repeatedly in the face until he fell over the row in front.”

Egan and Elhabbal, of Dewsbury, West Yorkshire, initially denied the attack but later admitted it.

Egan was given a community order and told to pay £655 in compensation and fines. Delivery driver Elhabbal was given a suspended sentence and told to pay £685.

Susan Carter, defending, said: “Miss Egan’s probation worker said her future is very promising and she has made significant progress.”

Egan, whose sister was killed by a drink-driver, was freed in July last year for good behaviour and is on parole until 2018.

Mr Codling’s widow Karen said: “At the time she was released we were told that if she committed another misdemeanour she would go to prison, but that’s not happened. That’s not justice, is it?

“It’s shocking that she has gone on to commit another drink-related offence so soon after her release.”
