Why racy lady Ruth will be hot to foxtrot on the new Strictly...

- By Giles Sheldrick

STRICTLY is back – and as the 15 celeb contestants prepare to strut their stuff from 7pm on BBC One tonight, some of the top stars revealed yesterday what tempted them to join the fun.

This Morning presenter Ruth Langsford is hotfooting it onto the ballroom floor to embrace feeling sexy.

“I think the adrenaline of Strictly Come Dancing hopefully makes you feel good about yourself, will hopefully make you feel sexy, the costumes are sexy. I am looking forward to embracing that side,” she said

And Ruth, 57, says she wants to become a pin-up for menopausal women across Britain by showing them they can still feel seductive in their late fifties.

“I said I’m looking forward to a hot dance rather than a hot flush,” she laughed.

She also wants husband and TV partner Eamonn Holmes – who joked she would be one of the first to be eliminated – to turn green with envy and eat his words.

Ruth said: “I’m hoping to make him extremely jealous. He’s not a jealous man, so I intend to rub myself provocatively up against any dancer who is vaguely handsome.”

Princess

Despite the joking, Ruth and Eamonn, also 57, are a blissfully happy couple. “I have a husband who never makes me feel unsexy,” she said.

Pop star Mollie King says she will dare to bare during her time on Strictly.

The Saturdays singer, 30, is one of the favourites to win the ballroom showdown.

She revealed: “I will just go with anything that makes me feel like a princess.”

TV funnyman Brian Conley says his wife hopes the curse of Strictly – the show’s reported power to break up relationships – strikes. Joker Brian, 56, a former Pontins bluecoat, married Anne-Marie in 1996, eight months after proposing to her while wearing a suit of armour. The couple have two daughters.

He revealed: “My wife can’t wait. She’s saying, ‘I hope that blimmin’ curse kicks in – it’s been 21 years now, love’.”

Debbie McGee, widow of TV magician Paul Daniels, says she is ready for Strictly’s racy costumes as she conjures up daring dance routines.

It will be first time she has got up close to a man since the death of her husband Paul, a former Strictly contestant, at the age of 77 in 2016.

Debbie, 58, said: “I’ve been in show business a long time and anything goes to a degree. I will wear whatever they give me. The Strictly costume people are amazing.”

Pop star turned parish priest Rev Richard Coles says he is taking part in Strictly on a wing and a prayer. The former member of the Communards, who is now a presenter on Radio 4’s Saturday Live show, claims Strictly has already changed him.

Rev Coles, 55, the parish priest of St Mary the Virgin, Finedon in the Diocese of Peterborough, said: “I had someone come round the other day with some documents from my parochial church council, but I couldn’t come to the door because I was exfoliating.”

Rev Coles jokes of having “extensive dance experience from the nightclubs of Ibiza in 1989” but “cannot remember any of it at all”. He added: “I want to lose two-and-a-half stone and not go to A&E. That’s my main ambition. And also working through my andropause – the menopause for blokes.” Bookmakers Ladbrokes tip Mollie King at 4/1, Debbie McGee 20/1, Brian Conley 25/1, Rev Richard Coles 40/1 and Ruth Langsford at 50/1.

TODAY is an important one for fans of fake tan, sequins and dancing celebrities. Yes, Strictly Come Dancing is back with a new batch of famous faces nervously getting ready to face the music. Good luck to them all and here’s to another brilliant series.
