Woman who helped child sex gang jailed

- By Paul Jeeves

A WOMAN who found vulnerable girls for an Asian sex grooming gang was yesterday jailed for six years.

Carolann Gallon, 22, was the only female among 18 convicted of targeting victims, including a 13-year-old.

A court heard the girls were forced into drink and drug addiction and were raped and abused in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Members of the gang were brought to justice after police paid a convicted child rapist £10,000 to provide information under Operation Sanctuary.

Judge Penny Moreland said the offences involved “sustained and systematic psychological abuse” of vulnerable women and girls.

The victims – all white – were plied with free drugs but, when addicted, they were ordered to perform sex acts in return. After arrest, one gang member said: “You can’t control your white kids...what I see in this country.”

But prosecutor John Elvidge insisted at Newcastle Crown Court there was no “direct evidence” race played a part. Gallon recruited girls by pretending to befriend them, but later told police: “They shouldn’t have had too much to drink. It’s self-inflicted. I’ve got no sympathy”.

In one incident she took a 13-yearold who had run away from foster care. Gallon, of Newcastle, sobbed as she was jailed for six years and three months after admitting three counts of trafficking for sexual exploitation.

The court was told how Gallon took a girl with learning difficulties to a flat where she was raped by Abdulhamid Minoyee, 34, also from Newcastle.

The victim told police “she was scared, ashamed and embarrassed”. He had also tried to assault a drug addict. Minoyee was jailed for 15 years. The last gang member will be jailed next week.
