Parking ticket spoils Dawn’s shopping treat

- By Michael Knowles

CRESTFALLEN Dawn French was far from amused when she returned from shopping to find a parking ticket slapped on her windscreen.

With the penalty charge notice still attached, she jumped straight behind the wheel and drove off without stopping to examine it.

The 59-year-old star of The Vicar Of Dibley had been shopping with friends in Launceston near her home in Fowey, Cornwall, earlier this month.

Browsing

She was seen walking round town in a striped T-shirt dress and large sunglasses. But while browsing, a traffic warden slapped a ticket on her red Mini.

Dawn, who has always struggled with her weight, revealed recently how she lost several stone in the run-up to surgery.

She told fans via social media: “When I was due to have my hysterectomy the doctor told me that if I could lose some weight before the operation they would be able to do it via keyhole surgery and I would recover in three weeks or so. “Otherwise it would be big open surgery and three months to recover. So I set about dropping a few stone. No magic wand, just tiny, joyless low-calorie eating and lots more walking for weeks and weeks.

“It was grim. I lost seven-anda-half stone. I could have the keyhole surgery. Great. That’s all it was, practical.” Dawn has spoken candidly about her past attempts to shed weight.

In 2012 after losing eight stone she joked that without her “lovely blubber” it was harder to swim.

She added: “I had great fondness for that other body. I knew it very well.”
