Dyche’s timely advice to rival

- Mike Whalley

SEAN DYCHE believes under-pressure Crystal Palace boss Frank De Boer needs to brush off the eBay generation and pay more attention to Howard Wilkinson.

De Boer is feeling the heat three games into his reign as he prepares to face Dyche’s Burnley at Turf Moor tomorrow.

By contrast, Dyche is set to celebrate five years in charge next month, having been given time to build.

And he says the only way to survive is to follow the advice of legendary Leeds boss Wilkinson.

Dyche said: “It was Howard Wilkinson who said, ‘Win, survive, succeed’. You’ve got to win first. Winning allows you to survive. While you’re surviving, you can succeed in the sense of starting to build.

“We all want everything yesterday. We’re all guilty of it. Your kids are on the internet, on eBay, saying, ‘Can I have this? Can I have that? Can it be delivered tomorrow?’

“Owners get a bit of stick but it’s often the fans who are demanding change very quickly.”

Dyche backed the decision to close the Premier League summer transfer window before the season starts, although Burnley chose to abstain from the vote.

“The club know my views and from a club point of view they’re similar but slightly different,” Dyche said.

“We haven’t forgotten our past either. We know it puts pressure on teams coming up, especially in the play-offs.”
