LIVERPOOL

as they begin their Champions League campaign against Sevilla on Wednesday, when Philippe Coutinho is set to be recalled. But the defensive alarm bells keep ringing.

Gabriel Jesus added two before substitute Leroy Sane came on to score two cracking goals to leave you wondering where Sanchez would have fitted in had City prised him away from Arsenal.

There have been question marks over whether Aguero and Jesus can establish a partnership but Pep Guardiola pointed to the way the Argentinian unselfishly set up the Brazilian for City’s third goal.

“It means a lot to me what Sergio did,” said Guardiola. “They are both good guys. Both are exceptional players. Their relationship is top. We need that egotism to want to score more than your team-mate but when they have the ability to choose the right decision, like Sergio did – because it was one against one – so he had the ability to pass. “When that happens, the next time Gabriel is going to pass to Sergio and that is good. When he does that it means a lot in the way we want to create something special in the locker room. That is so important to us.”

The other good news for City is that medical checks showed Ederson suffered no concussion or fracture and was well enough to return to the dugout by the end of the game. He is likely to be rested for the Champions League game against Feyenoord on Wednesday but could return next Saturday.
