ONE MIGHT imagine it would have been Ned RocknRoll’s appalling name that first caught wife Kate Winslet’s attention.
However, the actress reveals that it was actually the sight of her husband to be (whom you may not be altogether surprised to hear was actually born Abel Smith) wearing a head torch.
Kate, 41, met Ned in 2011, when both were on holiday on Necker Island, owned by Ned’s uncle Sir Richard Branson. When disaster struck and their holiday home caught fire, Ned was ready for action. “I met my husband in a house fire,” said the Titanic star on US television. “He was the only dude to have a head torch and a pair of shoes.”
This fetching ensemble caught her eye – despite the fact she was still dating model Louis Dowler at the time. But the draw of his head torch was obviously too much to ignore. “I married him! I was like, ‘I’ll go for the guy with a head torch!’” New light, then, on love’s many splendours.
