Don’t bank on Nile
NILE RANGER is set to miss Southend’s league match at Shrewsbury tonight because of a curfew after his conviction for online banking fraud.
Ranger was released from prison last month after serving 10 weeks of an eight-month sentence.
Southend manager Phil Brown said: “His curfew is 7pm until 7am and it doesn’t look like we’ve got the opportunity of playing Nile.”
The striker was released early from jail because of his “consistently excellent custodial behaviour”. He played against Charlton on Saturday afternoon but is still wearing a tag and tonight’s kick-off is 7.45pm.
“I’ve been in touch with governors, as opposed to coaches, about the problems we’ve got,” said Brown.
“I’ve spoken to Nile and it’s looking like it’s 90-95 per cent that he’s unavailable for Tuesday.”
This is set to be the last match Ranger will miss because of the tag, which is expected to be removed ahead of the trip to Fleetwood on Saturday week.
