I call in my defence... a tortoise
A MAN accused of possessing a knife in a pub surprised a court when he called on a pet tortoise in his defence.
David Spedding, 56, had denied the charge and told magistrates he used the knife to cut up fruit and veg for his travelling pets.
Then Spedding, of Bamber Bridge, Lancs, pulled a tortoise from his pocket, saying: “He is my life. I have brought him to court to show him to you – he is why I had the knife.”
Blackpool magistrates court heard Spedding took a trip to the resort with his pets. He must return to court later for a one-day trial.
