United and Chelsea return to big time in real style

- Richard Lewis

MAROUANE FELLAINI proved just how important he is to Jose Mourinho as he got Manchester United’s Champions League return off to a flying start. Fellaini broke the deadlock after coming on as a substitute when Paul Pogba limped off with a hamstring problem after just 18 minutes. Fellaini himself had been a doubt and Mourinho had said he “feels weaker” without him. By the 35th minute Mourinho would have felt anything but weak as Fellaini headed home and United went on to seal the win as Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford scored in the second half. It was an easy night at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea strolled to victory as they also returned to the Champions League in style. Qarabag were the first side from Azerbaijan to reach the group stages but they were taken apart after Pedro put Chelsea ahead with only five minutes gone.
